Whenever I hear about agency owners talking about difficulties aligning their business or communicating with their teams, I think about this diagram.

When you add more people into a team, the additional lines of communication aren’t just ‘+1’.
This is a huge part of the reason we tend to lament how simple it ‘used to’ be, when things just happened and everyone was on the same page.
The reality is the business has moved from a conversation around a coffee table to around a boardroom table. Or maybe a food court.
Of course it’s going to get more complex. Your approach needs to recognise this reality and start relying more on systems and structure, rather than expecting everyone to be aligned after a walk to the coffee shop on a Monday morning.
