The Replication Problem

The ‘Replication Problem’ happens when founders can’t let go.

They feel they need to do everything themselves or check everything the agency produces. It’s understandable— the business is built on their reputation.

You’ll often hear things like, “Juniors will take too long, so I’ll just do it,” or “I don’t have time to train that person.” This mindset means there’s no investment in developing talent from junior to senior levels, leading to a reliance on hiring senior talent.

The result? A stressed founder, blown project budgets and timelines, and talented team members feeling unfulfilled and leaving.

To start to fix this, founders need to reflect and gather feedback. Getting insights from a Board, Advisory Board, advisors, or mentors can be an enormous help.

But most of all, invest in training and developing your team.

This will ease the pressure on the founder, improve client outcomes, and help keep your talented team members happy.
